In short: we collect only what we need to run your workshop bookings and orders, we never sell your information, and you can ask to see, correct or delete it at any time by emailing madebyjane1@hotmail.com.
Who we are
Made By Jane is a small creative business in Ontario, Canada, offering workshops, DIY kits and handmade products through madebyjane.ca. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, how we use it, and the choices you have. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect
- Your account: your name and email address. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider and is never visible to us.
- Bookings and orders: the workshops you register for, the products you order, quantities, how you chose to pay, and the status of your booking or order (for example, confirmed, cancelled or refunded).
- Payments: card payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. If you pay by Interac e-Transfer or cash, we record that you paid, and for e-Transfers we see the details your bank includes, such as your name and email address.
- Back-in-stock requests: if you click "Notify me" on a sold-out product, we keep your email address, which product you asked about, and when we emailed you.
- Messages: if you use our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message so we can reply.
- Email preferences: whether you have unsubscribed from back-in-stock alerts, and whether emails to your address are being returned as undeliverable.
- Technical information: our hosting provider keeps short-term server logs (such as IP address and browser type) to keep the site secure and running. When you sign in, your browser stores a sign-in token so you stay signed in.
We do not use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies.
How we use it
- To register you for workshops, fulfil orders and arrange pickups.
- To send emails about your booking or order, such as confirmations, cancellations and refunds.
- To email you when a product you asked about is back in stock.
- To reply to your questions.
- To keep the website secure, prevent fraud, and keep the financial records the law requires.
Who we share it with
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that run this website, and only as much as each one needs:
- Supabase: stores our database and handles sign-in.
- Stripe: processes card payments and refunds.
- Resend: delivers our emails.
- Vercel: hosts the website.
- Google: only if you choose "Sign in with Google".
These providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be subject to the laws of that country. We may also disclose information if required by law.
Your email choices
We do not send newsletters or marketing emails. We only email you about bookings and orders you have made, and about products you asked us to tell you about.
Emails about your bookings and orders, such as confirmations, cancellations and refunds, are part of the service you asked for, so we always send them. Back-in-stock alerts include an unsubscribe link. If you unsubscribe, we stop sending you back-in-stock alerts.
How long we keep it
We keep your account information for as long as you have an account with us, and back-in-stock requests until you ask us to remove them. We keep records of payments, bookings and orders for as long as Canadian tax law requires, generally six years. After that, we delete it or make it anonymous.
Keeping it safe
We use reasonable safeguards to protect your information, including encrypted connections, access limited to the people who run the business, and trusted service providers. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach that creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we will tell you and report it as the law requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you the personal information we hold about you,
- correct anything that is wrong,
- delete your account and information (except records we must keep by law), or
- stop using your information for a purpose you previously agreed to.
Email madebyjane1@hotmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version on this page and update the date at the top.
